LEEP is an endocrinology lab housed in the School of Anthropology at the University of Arizona. We provide enzyme immunoassay and sample preparation services for a variety of species. We welcome students and researchers in the lab, and will provide guidance and training as needed. Contact us to discuss your research!
Why Hormones?
Hormones play an important role in behavior and physiology. These chemical messengers are secreted throughout the body to stimulate metabolic or physiological changes. By studying hormonal responses, we can learn more about the biological mechanisms that facilitate coping with dynamic physical and social environments.
Non-Invasive Methods
Our own research is focused on analyzing samples collected non-invasively from wild individuals. Non-invasive methods allow for repeated sampling and therefore large amounts of data with little to no disturbance to study populations, and allow us to investigate responses to the natural environment. These methods are currently in use to understand the effects of habitat degradation on the health of threatened species (see Projects).
